Halloween fun

Halloween is not one of my favorite holidays.  I don't like scary movies and I'm not particularly creative and/or crafty, two crucial elements.  Lucky for me, I have a mother in law that is, in fact, very creative, so she makes the kids costumes for them every year!  Fox actually decided to wear one that she gave him that she had gotten from a friend, since he had worn his Lightning McQueen costume to a few other parties, so he wanted to give the dragon equal time.  Too bad I didn't even really get one cute picture of everyone ready to go Trick or Treating (see, I told you I am a failure at Halloween).

I had actually been to a party for each child already earlier in the day.  I had made pretzel spiderwebs and mummy dogs for Fox' preschool party, along with some fresh delicious sugar cookies.  He loves his preschool buddies - too bad he's so into his "dragon" character you can't actually see his face :)

So I was at Fox' party then straight to Lauren's party, then I made Brooke walk home with her friend, James from middle school (it's only 1.5 miles) so I could stay and go to Ashley's party!  I have to admit, Fox was most excited to see Ashley - Lauren's party wasn't quite as exciting as he had hoped, but he knew Ashley would give him the attention he so richly deserved.  Ashley was cracking me up in the morning when she came downstairs and said, "I never realized you could have different kinds of stripes together."  I responded that I didn't really think her outfit was proof that you could NOT.  She said "well, I think we have a different sense of style."  Her super short shorts with the boots on under her minion costume would have been proof enough of that.

Robie and I had dressed up for a fun couple's Halloween party the weekend before Halloween.  We were Olympic gymast gold medalist and gold medal track star.  It wasn't the coolest costume ever, but it actually worked out well - I was nice and warm in my sweatsuit over my leotard, and how often do you get to wear sweats and flip flops to a party?  I was thinking about dressing up on Halloween but I figured in the dark I would just look like someone wearing their sweats.

We did get the pumpkins carved just in time (Tuesday night).  Robie is the master carver, so once the kids get the insides all cleaned out, he could work his magic.  The older kids sketch out what they want and then he converts to the pumpkin.  Nice work, honey :)
Ashley said she feels bad for November 1st, because it's hard to go right after a holiday.  I reminded her that Thanksgiving and Christmas are right around the corner!

Holy cow, you aren't kidding about Robie being the master carver. Those pumpkins are sweet! Our were pathetic to put it nicely. Fun pictures!
