I'm not sure how it is possible that although I am not aging at all, my kids are somehow getting older and older.. Ashley turned 11 this week - crazy! We moved into this house a few weeks before she was born (May 1st, to be exact) , so that means we have also lived in this house 11 years. She is such a funny girl, for the whole week before her birthday she loved it when she would say "I feel like someone's birthday is coming up.. whose could it be?" and then I'd say something along the lines of "I don't know anything about anybody's birthday - you must be confused" and would continue to pretend as if I forgot her birthday. She loves it. Funny thing is that she was telling my neighbor during carpool that she thought I had forgotten my birthday and the neighbor was concerned that I had in fact forgotten, so she made sure I knew when she saw me later that day - I'm glad even the neighbors are looking out for her :)

Her dinner choice was Submarina - I remember I used to have to pick something my mom made for dinner, but Submarina is pretty good, so I'll try not to be offended. I actually made that joke to Ashley and then, because she is so sweet, she felt bad and picked a few meals at home that she would be happy with. We stuck with Submarina anyway :)
She is playing volleyball on a grades 5-6 team at the local rec center and has been having a great season. I'm actually her coach which is interesting since I don't really play volleyball at all, but it's been really fun and she has some great players on her team so they've been doing really well. Anyway, this ties into her birthday because we had their first playoff game on her birthday night! Now, they only lost one regular season game, and most of them weren't even really that close, but the game ended up being pretty exciting! The first game was actually kind of close and then they relaxed and won the second game pretty dramatically, but the best part was that Ashley had a great game, and she even made the game winning point. We went outside after the game and the first thing she said was, "that was my birthday point!" She was so stoked about it - and so was I, it was a very exciting ending.

I had baked her cake the day before and earlier in the afternoon she even helped me decorate it. It definitely wasn't perfect, but I think the polka dots that she and her friend, Bella, did on the top were actually the cutest part :) As you will see, she got a phone for her birthday. She actually screamed and has basically had it on her person every moment since then, even though she really has no actual need for it yet! Our rule is before middle school and since she starts middle school next year, she knew it was coming soon-ish, but she was still very excited ...

Ashley still struggles with a kind of negative outlook on life but over the last year she has really tried hard to work on seeing the good in things. She is the kindest, most giving child. She can never take the last treat or see someone else go without something that she has. In fact, I'm working with her on being able to even recognize what she likes and wants, because she is usually so focused on making sure other people are happy that she doesn't even know what she likes for herself! Love you, Ashley :)
