water baby

Most of the week was spent just playing on the slides and the pools at the Resort. A few days we got a little chilly (low 80's.. brrr), a little rain, a few clouds, but nothing stuck around for long.
The resort is seriously massive - it has its own waterpark with the "Current" which is basically a giant lazy river,

There is a portion that has waves and also some rapids

and a portion where you can ride the conveyor belt up to the Power Tower, which is the building that houses all the biggest rides (in other words, if you don't feel like walking up, just ride your tube up).

Robie and I normally prefer vacations where we are seeing lots of new things, so we were a little hesitant about a trip where we mostly stuck around one place, but it was really fantastic for the kids.

Fox fell in love with this slide.    it was fun enough, but especially when dad was going with him :)

Lauren was the only one who got a little grumpy, which I'm going to blame on her being pretty tired, every time, but we definitely didn't have to deal with the "are we almost there?" "why are we looking at that?" sort of questions.  In fact, somehow when we were leaving, they still didn't feel like they had gotten enough.

The few days that we were actually able to drag everyone away from the pool, we did pretty much every free activity the resort offers - BINGO, free movies (none of us had seen the new Karate Kid and Robie and I hadn't seen How to Train Your Dragon), and crafts for the kids.   We actually scored some pretty cool stuff at BINGO and the kids really liked their craft time.  Lauren also scored on the free activity front, because for children under 42" they have a stingray feeding.   She got to go into the enclosure and toss out some shrimp.  What with her weird food aversions, I was actually surprised that she touched the shrimp, but she absolutely loved it.  In fact, she wanted to know why she couldn't do it again (we had to leave the next day and hadn't heard about it before).

Since the resort has mostly ridiculously expensive restaurants we decided to make most of our food in the room (we had a full kitchen, etc.).  It actually turned out really well - Robie's dad made a fantastic fish cook, so we enjoyed that for two of the nights and some really good tacos another night.  Only downside is that if you cook your own food, you have to clean it up, too.. the girls were apalled that they still had to do their loading/unloading the dishwasher jobs even on vacation.   Ah, reality.

Love that they both wanted to "try the life jackets on"  A little confidence never hurt anyone :)
