You know that I love the internet, right? Sure, I stalk people on facebook, occasionally update my blog, look up my favorite recipes, blah, blah; but this weekend, the internet has really pulled through for me. Let's go back to the beginning. Every year, we have a neighborhood Easter Egg Hunt. Ours was this morning. Of course, we've been working with Fox to hone his egg grabbing skills - they do, after all, have the under 2 crowd on their own section of grass with eggs strewn all about.
Easy way to get some eggs, right? Yeah, too bad Fox found the neighbor's stroller with a Mickey Mouse baby in it about 3 minutes before they started the Easter Egg hunt. All he wanted to do was push that baby around. Thank goodness one of the moms put bubbles into some of the eggs, once he saw another toddler playing with bubbles he focused and got down to business.
Some of the kids were getting a little old for the egg hunt (not my kids, since my kids will do almost anything for candy at any time). What does this have to do with the internet, you say? Well, they decided to hold an egg drop this year to keep the older kids interested. I guess you could say I'm a little competitive, so you know I had to look it up on the internet. As usual, I didn't start until last night, so I could only do options that I already had all of the items for (long toothpicks, boxes, rubber bands were all out). There was quite the quantity of quality suggestions for egg drop success, but I decided on 3 simple, but effective techniques: 1. Rice Krispies, 2. bagels, 3. bubble wrap. All but the bubble wrap (and this could have had something to do with Ashley squeezing the bag prior to any drops at all) survived the 12 foot drop. There were 2 other egg drops that survived (sadly, the egg suspended in Jello only made it to 6 feet), so we weren't officially the only winners (not that it matters, because of course it is all just for fun!? ).
Good times were had by all, and we had the rest of the day to win a volleyball game (the older girls), pick up the previously broken camera (me), and teach Lauren how to ride a bike (Robie). Here's where the internet enters back into our story. Lauren is terrified of her bike. She doesn't want to fall, and who blames her, right? So Robie found this thing on the internet about taking off the pedals so the child learns to balance and get their momentum going, THEN put the pedals back on, and Voila, they are riding their bike. We're still working on phase one, but I think we are well on our way to success *(pictures to follow, mom :))

Fox cracks me up. I love his expressions. Such a cutie!
When I first saw the picture, I assumed Fox realized that putting his basket in the stroller made it faster and easier to maneuver!
What a fabulous idea the egg drop is! I am going to have to remember that one for next year. My kids are at that age where dyeing Easter eggs is losing its luster. But competition...they are all over that!
That egg drop was impressive. At first I didn't know what was going on in the street, but it was fun to see how interested the kids were. That is so fun that your neighborhood does so many family things together!
