Almost teens

Brooke is definitely in the pre-teen years, as proven by a few of our recent encounters.  On the one hand, it is great, because I can sleep in while she gets her own breakfast and lunch and gets off to school.  On the other hand, she sure thinks she is a smarty pants (wonder where she gets taht from!)  Anyway, the other day we had a funny conversation.  For 10 minutes we debated the spelling of Rudyard Kipling's name.  She had done a report on Riki-Tiki-Tavi (did you know it was originally a part of The Jungle Book? - I didn't, but I digress..), and had spelled his name incorrectly on the cover page.  As Brooke is a notoriously horrible speller, I was proofreading it for her and pointed out the mistake.  She fixed it (and the 40 other spelling errors) and went to school.  After school, she got in the car and declared, "It's RUYARD Kipling"  What?!  She seriously wouldn't give in!  She was even saying his name incorrectly.  The whole way home, she insisted I had it wrong - Hello, I had my phone in the car on which she could have looked it up, although I was also 100% sure and completely confident she was wrong- but no, she KNEW she was right.  I was laughing so hard at the ridiculous-ness.  She even talked her buddy, James, into agreeing with her, I think mostly so I could really laugh at them both.   Is this what the next years will be?  Resistance in the face of actual facts?  (it's like Obama supporters .. heehee)  Oh boy!
