On Wednesday, we were at the zoo for a few hours. It was funny because as we were walking around Brooke was expressing an interest in going to the Oakland zoo. Apparently, one of her magazines from school said something about it so she figured it must be the best zoo anywhere. Um, hello, have I taught her nothing?!! The moving sidewalk we were going to go on was out of service so we ended up walking up the back way and coming out by the giraffes and the rhinos. Luckily we did, because my two favorite things of the day were over there. First, Ashley ran with the cheetah. They had moved him (and his dog friend) to the exhibit across from where the elephants used to be, and when we got there this teenager was running up and down the exhibit and the cheetah was running along. Of course, Ashley thought that was pretty cool - so she just had to try it. The cheetah just sat and stared when she started running right where he was - she had to start at one side and run all the way down and then past him and he would take off running next to her. So cool - until the bus driver came by and told Ashley to stop teasing the cheetah.
Oops. seriously, we thought he was having fun, too :)
Then the giraffe was drinking which was just cool because we usually just see them drink from the water tank that is like 4 feet off the ground, but I liked seeing his legs going sideways to drink from the ground. Of course as soon as we got home, the kids wanted to know what we were going to do next - hmm, not sure that was the joy of summer I had in mind..
