new location

We went camping this weekend with our ward at Dixon Lake.  Since it is only about 25 minutes away from our house and we hadn't been there, we weren't sure what to expect and I would say we were pleasantly surprised.  When the kids heard "lake" they were enivisioning tubing and swimming, so they were a little bummed to realize they don't allow any human contact with the lake (drinking water? with fish in it?). Anway, once they saw the cute lake and the nice campsites, combined with their friends from the ward, it was all happiness.

Fox was so excited - he was talking about camping for a couple of days - "we go camping now?"  "camping time now?"and he was still excited when we set up the tent.  He immediately laid down on his own little air mattress ready for sleeping time.  It was so cute.  Until 8pm when we wanted him to go to bed.  And then 9pm, and then 10pm, then 11pm - you get the idea.  He wasn't necessarily screaming (well, except for this one time where I was just trying to hang out with some friends and i hear him from the other side of the camp screaming, "mom, mom, I want mom".) Anyway, besides that he mostly just didn't want to go to sleep, so after holding him by the bathroom for a while (great spot to catch people to chat with), he finally said, "I go sleep now".  Sure enough, Robie took him in and he went straight to sleep.  Stubborn little kid.

The ward not-activities committee (because they don't supposedly have activities committees anymore) set up some games in both evening and morning and had a delicious breakfast.  Combined with our purchased KFC on the way up, s'more stuff from the Waldvogels and the Zmoleks (who were pretty much mobbed by the rest of th us who didn't bring any!) we really had it easy in the food vein - the easy life :)  Ashley even won the "chubby bunny" contest in which you stuff as many marshmallows as you can into your mouth and the last one to be able to say "chubby bunny" wins.  Rumor has it she was eating the marshmallows ?!

Just to finish off the success, we put away our tent only 10 minutes before the sprinkler went off and started spraying a giant rainbird spray of water right where our tent had been (guess we weren't really in an official campsite.. :())  Good times.

Sounds like so much fun. We would love to do that in our ward.

I love Dixon Lake. So much better than I imagined from the drive up there. Some pretty sketchy neighborhoods you have to go through.
