another week off school

We had more fun while the kids were off school.  My cousin in North Carolina has a little girl that is Lauren's age and she had a "Flat Stanley" assignment at school, so she sent Stanley out for a little vacation in San Diego.  We were already planning on doing some fun things, but the motivation to take Stanley with us really kicked it into high gear.   We played around at home for one day, which, of course, means umbrella forts and hanging out in the yard.

then it was on to more touristy things, like the zoo:

Sea World, mission bay, and ice skating

(this picture cracks me up because Ashley and Lauren really wanted to sit in the "soak zone" and lo and behold they did get soaking wet! - Lauren was mad... really, Lauren?  Cuz you were sitting in the soak zone so you would get wet - the water was a little colder than she anticipated!)

Wild Animal Park (Safari Park they call it now)
One of the highlights was the Butterfly exhibit.  Fox didn't really like it much, with all the little butterflies flying around and the really warm and humid conditions, but the other girls thought it was pretty sweet!  Thanks to the Shorts for getting us tickets (they are free, but you have to choose a time, sort of like a Disneyland Fast Pass) otherwise, we probably wouldn't have been able to see them!  Lauren was the only one that we captured a picture of the butterfly landing on and she was totally freaked out.  He moved on quickly so she survived.
and then to top it all off, Robie's aunt, Sheri, came into town and was going through the temple for the first time on Friday (after living a pretty rough life)Robie took the afternoon off and we joined his family there, went to Souplantation and something we planned earlier in the week - took the kids camping!  Another post on camping to come :0
