Firestorm 2007

So yesterday after church Robie was taking a nap and I was goofing around with the kids and I came upstairs and noticed a bunch of smoke (we had all the windows open, of course). After trying to figure out where it was, we shut all the windows and didn't worry too much about it for a couple of hours. Then Robie's mom called because his aunt, Brenda was being evacuated from Ramona. She wasn't leaving because her husband, Kurt, was the sherriff in charge and he thought she would be fine, but I guess there was a big fire. I was up until 1:30 watching the coverage of the fire (the ward was gathering supplies and trying to help with the evacuees from Ramona) and trying to see if Brenda would be ok. Last I heard they were a little concerned about the "San Pasqual Valley" (I had no idea what area that meant.) Before we went to bed we were even joking around about how long it would take the news crews to come up with a logo and some sort of title (it wasn't quite as funny - although we still couldn't help smile at each other- when we finally saw the "Firestorm 2007" logo.

Then at 6:30 this morning, Mark Mendenhall called to let me know that people's houses were burning in Green Valley and possibly Rancho Bernardo and we needed to be getting packed up and our friends, the Parmleys were headed out of 4S with a mandatory evacuation. I was so groggy, but I don't think I'll ever forget that moment of weird shock at the realization of what was happening.. a long day of sitting around watching the news and talking on the phone followed. Our ward was called and they told us we should all evacuate, but when looking at the evacuations we realized we were in this little pocket of non-mandatory evacuation, so we decided to stay put, since Mira Mesa didn't seem any more secure and that was our back up location. Needless to say, by tonight the girls are totally bored. We did pack up all our favorite belongings (pictures, videos, passports, important papers) just in case so then the girls wanted to go someplace else. I had to take a picture of what I found when I went upstairs tonight. Brooke had been up in my room doing crafts and watching tv and when I went up I found this paper (this is pretty large writing) written on the bottom of a notebook that I had in a pile of papers on my nightstand in big marker. Hilarious (in a sad sort of way)

I'm home and ours is the first blog I've visited. I love reading your blog. You were made for this. I love Brooke's picture with her two front teeth missing. Maybe you guys should come over here for dinner tonight, Mark will be out on visits so we should hang out.

I have to mimic Laura's comment about Brookes front teeth missing, adorable. I will also second her on the great blogger you are. I also love reading your blogs. Although I am hundreds of miles away and don't know what's going on in your life and Laura lives a couple seconds away but whatev! Just kidding, the support is great. :-)
