Still Here

OK, so I think I slept about 2 hours last night.. it sort of took me back to crazy college days hanging out with friends until wee hours of the night and then having to get up early... except for that I was up by myself and not really having that much fun :)

We decided to stay since we weren't being officially evacuated - although we're getting a lot of negative feedback from people that are convinced we are in the evacuation zone (you know who you are :), so I was still nervous about it and kept watching the coverage and by the time I was convinced we were totally safe, I was wide awake and wired, so then I just couldn't sleep until about 4:30 - my darn hip abductor is still driving me crazy (totally random thought).

The girls were pretty bored today, so I considered driving up with robie when he went to work in LA just to have something to do, but the Hannas next door came home just in time to keep the girls a little more entertained, so we could survive the day. Costco was open, so we made a little trip over there - we didn't even need anything but I HAD to get out of the house. Now i have hummus/pita chips and bagels, which is not a good combination for someone who hasn't been able to work out (the gym was open, but the kid's club was closed). Most of the other stores around here were closed, and the air quality isn't great, so we stayed inside for the rest of the day. When we went to Costco and I got into my car there was a total thick layer of black ash over everything.. it is going to be a long time before we get our new carpet that I was hoping to get soon, because that is going to take a while to clear out. Also, the kids are off school for the rest of the week.. it is going to be a LONG week.. no trampoline, no playhouse, no Hanna garage...

We are feeling really lucky that we can still be at our house - although in relation to the Reese's in their cool suite downtown, the Parmleys with their friends with the putting green, and the Mendenhalls hanging out at Disneyland, I am feeling a little bit like we are missing out on something even greater!

Random thoughts prompted by this fire (or possibly only having 8 hours of sleep over 2 nights):

1 - I would love to wallpaper the girls bathroom

2- I need window treatments in both of the girls' rooms

3 - I am really lazy and would much rather sit and watch tv and track random people in the stake's houses than actually clean or do things in my own home - sad

I need to take my contacts out and go to bed before I start drooling onto the laptop.

I'm so glad you stayed. I know you were bored, but you did a great service to those of us who bailed, whether it was neccesary or not. Think of yourself as an advocate for those who choose to evacuate, you were on the front lines providing up to the minute information when needed! Dinseyland wasn't all that great anyways. (Did that sound convincing? )

These are the opportunities for great mini-vacations. It is the only way I can get Cam to take time off! Although there is a slight pang of guilt that you feel going out and trying to have fun when there are thousands of people sleeping at Qualcom! Oh well, over it!
